NEWS: CAROUSEL Project Meeting in Skopje: A Milestone for Circular Economy Innovation

The CAROUSEL project continues to drive the transition to a circular and resource-efficient economy across the Adriatic-Ionian region. From June 3rd to 5th, 2025, project partners gathered in Skopje, North Macedonia, for a series of collaborative sessions, training, and networking events to advance the creation of a regional marketplace for up-cycled products.

Highlights from the Skopje Meeting

The event started with a warm welcome dinner at the traditional Macedonian restaurant “Old House,” setting the stage for fruitful discussions and informal networking among participants.

Core project activities took place at the Public Room, Skopje’s vibrant venue for innovation and dialogue. Partners shared progress, discussed strategies for up-cycling initiatives, and explored ways to strengthen local circular ecosystems. During the first day, Dipstor, MIR, Bistra, and UZOR facilitated the fourth training session, during which partners engaged in an interesting and intensive community-building and pilots’ development exercise.

Day 2 was devoted to sharing the situation analysis and project progress within the 3 work packages, while exploring and engaging in the focused strategy planning.

The meeting was closed with a wonderful study visit to Skopje-based company Ništa novo (“Same old”) to deepen their understanding of local circular economy practices and foster cross-border cooperation.

An optional sightseeing tour was offered to partners the chance to experience Skopje’s rich cultural heritage, including landmarks such as the Stone Bridge, Old Bazaar, and Skopje Fortress.

Looking Ahead

The CAROUSEL project remains committed to piloting new approaches that encourage circular lifestyles in small villages and rural communities. By bringing together local authorities, creative designers, manufacturers, and community influencers, CAROUSEL is building a robust marketplace for up-cycled products, promoting sustainable behavior change across the region.
